The Purple Heart Cape: 15 Minutes on Twitch, Once in a Lifetime

The Minecraft Purple Heart Cape from the 15th anniversary Twitch campaign in May 2024

In May 2024 Minecraft turned fifteen, and Mojang marked the milestone with 15 Days of Minecraft - two weeks of daily rewards, retrospectives, and partner events. The centerpiece for the streaming community was a Twitch campaign, announced on May 15, 2024: watch 15 minutes of any live Minecraft-category stream, get a code, own the Purple Heart Cape. Fifteen minutes for fifteen years.

How the campaign worked

Between May 15 (9:00 a.m. PDT) and May 31, 2024 (11:59 p.m. PDT), any logged-in Twitch account that watched 15 minutes of a Twitch partner or affiliate streaming live in the Minecraft category received a 5x5 redemption code through Twitch's rewards system. The code was entered at minecraft.net/redeem while signed in with a Microsoft account. The cape landed in Bedrock Edition immediately; Java Edition support rolled out to all eligible players on July 1, 2024.

Watching was the easy half of the campaign. Twitch also offered a companion cosmetic, the Glitch Mask - a wearable Twitch logo - for viewers who subscribed or gifted a sub to a Minecraft streamer during the same window.

Why it is rare

The Purple Heart Cape had a hard, well-publicized cutoff: after May 31, 2024, Twitch stopped issuing new codes permanently. Mojang's announcement listed a June 30, 2024 redemption deadline, but in practice that deadline was never enforced - codes earned during the window have continued to redeem ever since. What ended forever was the ability to earn one: players in regions where Twitch or its rewards program is unavailable never had a normal path to the cape at all, and unlike marketplace cosmetics it has never been sold or re-released. Mojang's long-standing policy is that promotional capes stay exclusive to their original promotion.

A cape that cost 15 minutes in May 2024 is now one of the most requested anniversary collectibles - the definition of "you had to be there".

The design

The cape is a soft lavender field carrying a bold purple heart - Twitch's brand purple, reshaped into a love letter from the streaming community to the game it helped build. It released alongside the Follower's Cape (TikTok's parallel campaign) and the 15th Anniversary Cape, but the Purple Heart is the one most associated with the celebration's Twitch roots.

Can you still get it in 2026?

You can no longer earn it - no new codes have been generated since the window closed, so the only supply is what players earned in those 16 days of May 2024. The good news: those original codes still redeem perfectly. MC Capers maintains verified working stock sourced from the original campaign - see the Purple Heart Cape product page for live availability, and read our other cape histories below if you want the full picture of Minecraft's promotional-cape era.
