Not all capes are equal. Some were granted to tens of millions of accounts; some required standing in a specific building on a specific weekend. Rarity talk gets subjective fast, so this ranking uses one brutally honest metric: what each cape actually costs right now at MC Capers. Our prices move with real supply and demand, and this page regenerates automatically as they do - so the order below is the market's opinion, not ours. Every entry links to its live listing and full history.
The ranking - most expensive first
The first convention-exclusive cape since MINECON 2016: a physical sticker quest at TwitchCon Rotterdam (May 30-31, 2026), one badge-scanned cape per attendee. The scarcest modern cape - and the market prices it accordingly. Full story.
TikTok's 15th-anniversary creeper, earnable for 31 days in mid-2024 through a mobile-only LIVE mechanic that entire regions never had access to. Supply stopped growing the day the window closed. Full story.
The only cape on this list still being earned - but only by people physically in Buenos Aires before August 2, 2026. One emailed code per attendee; supply is capped forever on closing day. Full story.
Awarded one code per scanned ticket at the touring Villager Rescue event since October 2024. No online route has ever existed. Full story.
Fifteen minutes on Twitch during a 16-day anniversary window in May 2024. Well publicized, Twitch-gated, and never re-issued. Full story.
The movie promotion's TikTok half: 19 days, mobile app only, LIVE streams only. The harder earn of the two movie capes. Full story.
Grand prize of the October 2025 community quest - the individual earning phase lasted exactly seven days. Full story.
Three minutes on Twitch during the movie campaign's 19 days. The most accessible movie cape, which the price reflects. Full story.
A global two-week drop that turned scarce overnight when Twitch's code pool emptied in ~18 hours. The cheapest ticket into TwitchCon 2026 history. Full story.
Museum tier: not for sale at any price
Above this whole list sits a shelf the market can barely touch. MINECON attendee capes (2011-2016) were handed to convention-goers a decade ago and have near-mythical status; the Mojang staff cape and community-role capes (moderators, translators) are tied to jobs, not promotions. They essentially never change hands - the museum pieces every price above is measured against.
The common shelf: capes almost everyone has
- 15th Anniversary Cape - claimable by essentially every account during the May 2024 celebration. A lovely keepsake, but most active players own it.
- Migrator Cape - granted to every account that migrated from Mojang to Microsoft credentials in 2021-2022. Distribution in the tens of millions - which is why neither cape carries a meaningful price.
How to read the prices
Two rules explain almost every number above. First, rarity is fixed the moment a window closes: Mojang has never re-released a promotional cape, so supply only shrinks - except the Moonlight Trail Cape, whose supply keeps growing until the Buenos Aires event closes on August 2, 2026. Second, friction sets the ceiling: capes that required physical attendance (Crafter, Experience, Moonlight Trail) cost multiples of the stream drops, because far fewer people could ever earn one. If you are starting from zero, the companion guide How to Get a Minecraft Cape in 2026 covers every route still open.
